Class Descriptions

The following classes are taught by Krissy and/or Todd Biernacki (you can find out more about us here). Since these classes all include instruction on the basics, there is no dance experience necessary. There is also no partner required, so come as you are! ...um...well...clothed, hopefully.

Kids' Groove: We’ll be jazzin’, groovin’, & movin’ and havin’ lots of fun! Krissy will weave her dance & teaching experience together for a fun-filled movement class for little ones. Parents are welcome to stay or to drop children off, as long as your child is okay with you leaving and is potty trained.
Cost: $7 per class (drop ins welcome), or $40 for the 8 week session in Bingen, $25 for the 5 week sessions in Hood River or Trout Lake.

Teen Swing: We'll start with Savoy Style Swing and work our way into 8 count Lindy Hop as well. This class is open to all, but teens will really enjoy the pacing of the class (fast!). By the end of the session we’ll put together a choreography that you can play with as a group. This will be a full 10 week session that builds with each class.
Cost: $50 for the 10 week session for teens ($70 for adults)

Savoy Style Swing: This is where it all began, and as an original American art form, Swing is here to stay! We combine basic 6-count / East Coast Swing with playful Savoy styling. This class is open to adults, teens and 'tweens. We alternate our Savoy Swing content each session...so feel free to sign up for both.
Cost: $40 for session I or II ($30 for teens), or $70 if you sign up for both at once($50 for teens)

Social Ballroom Sampler: These sessions will include two of the most popular ballroom dances; Waltz and Foxtrot. We teach authentic social ballroom dance, which means there are no choreographed routines (or preening) - you will learn how to truly lead or follow.

Waltz: One of the classics - a smooth partner dance that, more than any other, makes you both feel like you're truly gliding across the floor. I wouldn't hesitate to compare the feeling to the floating swells of skiing, snowboarding, water skiing, or ice skating. It's also cool in that it can be done to most any genre of music as long as it's in 3/4 time. We're talking Folk, Rock, Classical, Latin, and Country.

Foxtrot: A very versatile dance - from Country 2-Step to Fred and Ginger styles, Foxtrot is the basis for many of the more modern styles and variations. It is a great accompaniment to Swing because of its natural fit with some of the slower Jazz standards. This class would also be a great supplement to those interested in Country 2-Step, as it would add some moves and some additional perspective to that hugely popular dance.

Cost: $40 for Waltz or Foxtrot, or $70 if you sign up for both at once

Merengue: The fiery dance from the Dominican Republic, and now danced all over the world. A wonderful compliment to Salsa, Merengue is one of the hottest club dances around. This class will be fun, filled with lots of turns, spins, and moves! We alternate our Merengue content each session...so feel free to sign up for both.
Cost: $40 for session I or II, or $70 if you sign up for both at once

Private Wedding (First Dance) Lessons

If you are looking for a fantastic "first dance" for your upcoming wedding, you've come to the right place. We've helped hundreds of couples to look and feel great for their special wedding dance. In fact we hold a special place in our hearts for people preparing for their first dance - we got started dancing to prepare for ours!

Policies

At Blue Skies Dance we are committed to providing high quality dance classes in a playful atmosphere. We strive to be excellent teachers, to be organized and attentive, and to create a warm, gentle, and playful environment in which to learn dance. We welcome people of all backgrounds and abilities into our classes. We ask that everyone in the room to treat one another with respect.

Class cancellations:

	If for any reason you want to cancel registration in the class we will fully refund your money up to 1 day before the start of the first class.
	We will also refund your money less $10 if for any reason you decide to cancel after the 1st class.
	Beginning the 2nd week of class no refunds are given.
	We do not pro-rate classes for illness or travel.
	If we need to cancel class due to weather we will post this on our website. You can also call us at 503-459-6348 to check in about the class status. We will do our best to make up a class if we miss one due to inclement weather.

Dancing is a physical activity with inherent physical risks, just like walking or running. We expect students to come to class only if willing to take on these risks, and to take responsibility and liability for their well being. Students are requested to come directly to instructors with any questions, concerns, or complaints related to classes. We encourage all students to ask for help or take breaks as needed.
